CBSE Class 12 Exam Pattern 2026-27: Check Marking Scheme, Internal Assessment & Question Breakdown

CBSE Class 12 Exam Pattern 2026-27: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has finalized the Class 12 Exam Pattern for the 2026–27 academic session. In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 objectives, the board maintains a 50% weightage for competency-focused questions (case-based, source-based, and assertion-reasoning). The remaining evaluation comprises 20% select-response MCQs and 30% constructed-response short and long subjective questions. Students must score at least 33% separately in theory and practical/internal assessments to pass.

CBSE Class 12 Exam Pattern 2026-27: The CBSE Board has released the exam pattern for Class 12 for the year 2026-27, in such a way that the exam pattern is totally based on the principles of National Education Policy 2020. With an aim to shift learning away from memorizing to conceptual clarity, the board follows the 50% weightage on competency-based questions, i.e., case studies, source based questions and assertions-reasons questions.

In addition to the above, the board includes 20% objective questions or multiple choice questions (MCQs) to assess the understanding of basic definitions and 30% subjective questions to measure the presentation of the concepts and step by step problem-solving ability. The subject-wise theory paper will be of 70 or 80 marks and practical/internal assessment will carry 20 or 30 marks. A candidate will have to score a minimum of 33% marks in each of the written theory paper and practical/internal assessment separately in order to clear the Class 12 board examination. Detailed information regarding subject-wise blueprints, mark distribution tables, and sample question papers can be downloaded from the CBSE Academic Portal cbseacademic.nic.in.
