Got an innovative idea? Apply for Education Ministry's Rs 5.4 crore challenge
The Ministry of Education has opened registrations for the Seva First Innovation Challenge 2026, inviting students and young innovators to submit practical solutions to real-world problems by October 24. With a ₹5.4 crore prize pool, mentorship and incubation support, the initiative aims to push ideas towards prototypes and wider adoption.
The Ministry of Education has invited young innovators to participate in the Seva First Innovation Challenge (SFIC) 2026, a national innovation initiative aimed at encouraging students and young people to develop practical solutions to real-world problems.
The challenge has a total prize pool of Rs 5.4 crore. According to the Ministry of Education's promotional material, registrations and submissions for SFIC 2026 are open from September 25 to October 24, 2026.
The initiative encourages young changemakers to move beyond ideas and work on solutions that can address challenges faced by communities and society.
WHAT IS SEVA FIRST INNOVATION CHALLENGE?
The Seva First Innovation Challenge is designed to connect India's young innovators with real-life problems and provide them with a platform to develop practical, scalable and implementable solutions.
The initiative is being organised under the broader vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, with an emphasis on using innovation and technology to address challenges affecting citizens and communities.
The Ministry of Education has described the initiative as an effort to combine the spirit of 'Seva' with innovation, encouraging young people to identify problems around them and develop solutions that can create meaningful social impact.
RS 5.4 CRORE PRIZE POOL
One of the major highlights of SFIC 2026 is its Rs 5.4 crore total prize money. The initiative seeks to recognise promising innovations while encouraging young participants to take their ideas beyond the conceptual stage.
The challenge is not limited to theoretical ideas. Participants are encouraged to identify problems in their surroundings and develop solutions that have the potential to be tested, adopted and scaled.
THREE CATEGORIES FOR PARTICIPATION
The registrations are open across three categories --- Junior, Technical and Open. The Junior category is open to school students from Classes 6 to 12, while the Technical category is meant for students enrolled in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and polytechnics.
The Open category is open to undergraduate students and those pursuing higher studies, including postgraduate students and research scholars.
Further, the challenge will be conducted across five states and three Union Territories. The participating states are Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. The participating Union Territories are Lakshadweep, Puducherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
FROM IDEAS TO REAL-WORLD SOLUTIONS
The challenge encourages participants to identify practical problems in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, education, sustainability, waste management, AI, robotics, cybersecurity and clean technology, and develop technology-based, product, service or governance solutions.
Selected innovations may receive expert mentorship, technical guidance, laboratory and fabrication access, incubation and pilot support, with evaluation based on factors such as relevance, originality, feasibility, impact and scalability.
