Hyderabad: With uncertainty over higher education abroad, particularly in countries such as the United States, the number of students opting for campus placements at engineering colleges in

Telangana

is said to have increased.

Training and Placement Officers (TPOs) and faculty members told

that there has been at least a 10%-15% increase in the number of students seeking jobs through campus placements.

âThere has been a 15% increase in the number of students opting for placements this year. This is mainly because students are thinking twice about going abroad for higher studies due to uncertainty pertaining to visa rules,â said J Upendar, associate professor, University College of Engineering,

Seconding Upendar, Kishore Kanakapalli, who served as director of Training and Placements at Vasavi College of Engineering, said that while earlier about 90% of students used to opt for placements, now almost all eligible candidates are registering for campus placements.

âStudents are keeping a tab on the situation in the US. Many want to gain some experience before going abroad for higher studies so that they do not face major problems in securing jobs.

This is also a wait-and-watch period for many as the Trump regime will end in 2029, and the same is reflecting in placement registrations, as close to 95% of total students are registering for placements,â added Kishore.

They added that the placement scenario has also changed for the better in the recent past, with many service-based companies that had stayed away from placements until recently now returning to campuses and offering higher packages this academic year.

Students are being hired for roles such as digital specialist engineer (DSE), specialist programmer and software engineer, among others, with annual packages ranging from â¹3.5 lakh to â¹21 lakh.

âOver 200 students got placed in TCS recently, and only about 40 of them were hired at the starting package of about â¹3.5 LPA. The majority got hired for digital and prime roles, which offer higher packages of around â¹7.4 LPA and â¹9 LPA, respectively,â said Kishore.

NLN Reddy, director, Career Development Centre, Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT), said they were also seeing many service-based companies coming for placements this year.

is offering packages of up to â¹21 LPA. Many companies are actively recruiting this year,â he added.
