Founded by three AIIMS Jodhpur alumni, NPrep is using its in-house AI system, Nursing Brain, to personalise exam preparation and help nursing professionals pursue better career opportunities without putting their existing jobs on hold.
Balancing demanding work schedules with competitive exam preparation is a challenge for many nursing professionals in India. Jodhpur-based edtech startup NPrep aims to make it easier through an AI-powered platform that creates personalised study plans based on each learner’s performance, available time and exam goals.
Founded by Dr Prince Kaushik, Dr Utkarsh Paliwal and Dr Gourav Khurana, NPrep combines nursing education, competitive exam preparation and artificial intelligence to make professional upskilling more accessible.
Rather than offering students a fixed learning schedule, the startup has developed an in-house AI system called Nursing Brain, which helps determine what a learner should study next, which subjects require greater attention and how preparation priorities should change as an examination approaches.
The platform has accumulated learning data from more than 2.4 lakh students, including over 67.7 million question attempts and 16.76 million minutes of lecture viewing and test-performance data, according to company figures reported by Analytics India Magazine.
A Personal Experience That Inspired NPrep
The idea behind NPrep emerged from an experience that gave its founder an unusually close perspective on nursing care.
While studying medicine at AIIMS Jodhpur, Dr Prince Kaushik suffered a spinal injury in a car accident that required three months of recovery. His time as a patient brought greater attention to the role nurses play in hospital care and the importance of strengthening nursing education.
Recognising the professional development challenges faced by nurses, Kaushik joined fellow AIIMS Jodhpur alumni Dr Utkarsh Paliwal and Dr Gourav Khurana to establish NPrep during their MBBS internship. All three were 22 at the time.
The founders set out to help nurses prepare for government exams without having to quit their private-sector jobs or move to another city for coaching.
NPrep sought to make that preparation available digitally, allowing working nurses and students to pursue career advancement alongside their existing responsibilities.
What began as a basic multiple-choice question application has since evolved into a more comprehensive learning platform built around educational content, assessment and personalised preparation.
How Nursing Brain Personalises the Learning Experience
At the centre of NPrep’s technology is Nursing Brain, an AI-powered system designed specifically for nursing education.
The system draws on more than 2,000 hours of updated video lectures delivered by doctors and nurses, over 50,000 pages of academic notes and previous examination papers, and the Indian Nursing Council syllabus.
It supports the creation of questions, explanations and presentations, alongside transcription, translation and content quality checks.
Its application extends beyond generating educational material.
When students join NPrep, they provide information about their course, location, preferred language, available study hours and lecture speed. The platform uses these details to prepare a day-wise learning schedule.
As preparation progresses, its recommendation engine considers several performance indicators, including:
- Accuracy across individual topics and questions.
- Time spent answering questions and completing lectures.
- Mock-test performance and practice consistency.
- Target examination and remaining preparation time.
For example, if a student falls behind schedule, the platform can reorganise the learning plan without entirely removing unfinished topics. Subjects with greater examination relevance receive priority, while lower-priority material or areas in which the learner is already proficient can be moved further down the schedule.
This approach is particularly relevant for working nursing professionals whose study hours may vary because of professional commitments.
NPrep is also developing more responsive personalisation capabilities, with the longer-term objective of adjusting learning pathways at the level of individual questions.
Why NPrep Is Taking a Different Approach to AI
One notable aspect of NPrep’s technology strategy is its decision not to introduce an unrestricted, general-purpose AI chatbot for students.
In healthcare education, incorrect explanations can have implications beyond examination scores. The startup has consequently adopted a human-reviewed content development process.
AI-generated content goes through a two-step review process, with one expert checking clinical accuracy and another verifying the sources and relevance to current exam patterns.
Students can also flag errors within the application. NPrep says such content is typically reviewed and corrected within 30 minutes.
The company uses different AI models for specific operational requirements, including Claude for long-form structured tasks and ChatGPT and Gemini for creative work. It is also exploring Sarvam to support regional-language expansion.
Rather than relying on a single AI model to deliver educational responses directly, NPrep integrates artificial intelligence into defined learning and content-development workflows.
This reflects an important consideration in healthcare-focused edtech: personalisation must be supported by reliable, clinically reviewed information.
Building Career Opportunities for India’s Nursing Workforce
India had 46.02 lakh registered nursing personnel as of December 31, 2025, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Yet, the country’s nurse-to-population ratio remains below the WHO benchmark of three nurses per 1,000 people, highlighting the importance of professional upskilling and competitive examinations in shaping nursing career opportunities.
NPrep estimates that more than 40,000 government nursing vacancies could become available across central and state organisations during 2026.
Its examination-preparation focus covers recruitment opportunities such as AIIMS NORCET, ESIC Nursing Officer, RRB Nursing Superintendent, DSSSB Nursing Officer, Community Health Officer recruitment and various state staff nurse examinations.
By bringing preparation resources onto a digital platform, the company is seeking to reduce the dependence on location-specific coaching and help nursing professionals prepare for better employment opportunities while continuing to work.
The platform is priced at approximately ₹1,000 per month, including GST.
NPrep is also widening the formats available to learners. Its Nursing Audio QBank offers audio-based question practice, while multilingual learning support is being developed to improve accessibility for students who prefer regional languages.
Funding and the Road Ahead
NPrep has attracted investor backing as it continues to develop its nursing-focused education technology.
The startup has raised approximately $2 million across two disclosed funding rounds, comprising a $500,000 pre-seed investment led by Allen Capital and a $1.5 million seed round led by Lumikai.
It has also built a team of approximately 120 employees, with counselling accounting for a substantial portion of its workforce.
As the platform evolves, NPrep is looking to strengthen the connection between student performance data and individual learning recommendations.
The company evaluates its personalisation system through indicators such as mock-test improvement, topic accuracy, study-plan consistency and course completion, alongside comparative testing of learners who follow personalised plans and those who do not.
Its next area of development involves making these recommendations increasingly responsive to changes in a student’s preparation journey.
For NPrep, the opportunity extends beyond digitising conventional coaching material. Its business is built around a more specific objective: helping nursing students and working healthcare professionals identify their learning gaps, use limited study time effectively and prepare for career-defining examinations.
