Chümoukedima, Sept 19: The first Northeast Education Conclave 2026 concluded in Chümoukedima on Saturday after two days of discussions on strengthening implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across the region.
Hosted by Nagaland, the conclave brought together education ministers, policymakers, administrators, academics and other stakeholders from all eight Northeastern states.
The discussions focused on the theme “Implementation of NEP 2020: Vision, Challenges & Opportunities for the North Eastern States,” with emphasis on adapting policy implementation to the region’s distinct geographical, cultural, educational and infrastructural realities.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Nagaland Higher Education and Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along stressed the need to complement academic qualifications with practical skills and critical thinking to meet changing employment demands.
Participants also discussed challenges faced by students and institutions in remote and hilly areas, including connectivity, infrastructure, enrolment and access to educational resources.
The conclave further focused on skill development, research and innovation, digital education, technology, teacher development, and the preservation of indigenous languages and cultural heritage.
The second day featured plenary sessions where representatives from Northeastern states shared experiences, discussed implementation challenges and explored areas for greater cooperation.
The conclave concluded with a call for stronger coordination among the states and greater focus on translating NEP 2020 objectives into practical, inclusive initiatives suited to communities across the Northeast.
